Once you create coupons and promo codes for subscription items, administrators can apply them when creating or editing members' subscriptions and users can redeem them when signing up for a plan. This article explains how to redeem coupons and promo codes for subscription items and how to track their usage.
Use coupons and promo codes for subscription items
How administrators redeem coupons for subscription items
Administrators can apply coupons to subscription items by following these steps:
Navigate to the Community page and select a user or company to whom the discount should be applied.
Open the active subscription or create a subscription if the member does not have one yet.
Select the subscription item to which the coupon should be applied.
Choose the available coupon in the "Coupon" section.
Save the subscription.
You can apply a discount coupon to each subscription item individually. This flexibility lets you apply different discounts to different subscription items or apply a discount to only one specific subscription item and not to others.
How users redeem promo codes for subscription items
Users receive promo codes from administrators and enter them in the "Promo Code" section when signing up for a plan in the app. If the entered promo code is valid, the discount is applied to their first subscription payment and, if the coupon's "Duration Type" is other than "Once", to subsequent subscription invoices for the defined period.
Only users without an active subscription can sign up for a membership plan and redeem a promo code for a discount. For members with existing subscriptions, administrators can add a coupon directly to their subscription to apply a discount.
How coupons and promo codes for subscription items work
Once a coupon or promo code is redeemed, the discount applies to the member's subscription invoices.
For new subscriptions, the discount takes effect on the subscription start date.
For existing subscriptions, the discount takes effect on the next subscription renewal date.
The duration of the discount application is determined by the coupon's "Duration Type" value and is counted from the date the discount took effect.
Notes
If a coupon with a "Repeating" duration type is used on a subscription with a period other than a "Month", the discount will still apply to all invoices generated within the period defined in the coupon's "Duration in months" property.
For example, if you apply a coupon with a "3 months" duration to a yearly subscription, the discount will apply to one invoice. Note that the discount will cover the full yearly subscription price and not just the prorated price for 3 months.
Track coupon and promo code usage on subscription items
How administrators track coupon and promo code usage on subscription items
To track coupon and promo code usage, administrators go to the Locations > Settings > Discounts page and open a specific coupon or promo code. They can see the number and list of all redemptions with the following details: customer name, the plan on which the coupon was applied, and the redemption date.
Administrators can also track the analytics of coupon and promo code usage on subscription items by exporting an "Invoice items" report from Analytics. The report provides information on the coupon and promo code applications across all members' invoices in your app.
How users view their discounts
When signing up for a plan, users can see the discount they are eligible for immediately at checkout under the "Promo code" section after entering a valid promo code.
The applied discount is also displayed on the invoice transaction in the app.
