Redeem coupons and promo codes for subscription items

Learn how to redeem and track coupons and promo codes for subscription items.

Updated this week

Once you create coupons and promo codes for subscription items, administrators and users can redeem them to pay a discounted subscription fee.

How administrators redeem coupons

  1. Go to the Customers page > user or company profile to whom the discount should be applied.

  2. Select the subscription item to which the coupon should be applied.

  3. Choose the available coupon in the "Coupon" section. Press Save twice.

You can apply a discount coupon to each subscription item individually. This flexibility lets you apply different discounts to different subscription items or apply a discount to only one specific subscription item and not to others.

How users redeem promo codes

  • Once entered, the discount is applied to their first subscription payment.

  • If the coupon's "Duration type" is other than "Once," the discount is applied to subsequent subscription invoices for the defined period.

Only users without an active subscription can sign up for a membership plan and redeem a promo code for a discount. For members with existing subscriptions, administrators can add a coupon directly to their subscription to apply a discount.

How coupons and promo codes for subscription items work

Once a coupon or promo code is redeemed, the discount applies to and is reflected on the member's subscription invoices.

  • For new subscriptions, the discount takes effect on the subscription start date.

  • For existing subscriptions, the discount takes effect on the next subscription renewal date.

The duration of the discount application is determined by the coupon's "Duration type" value and is counted from the date the discount took effect.

If a coupon with a "Repeating" duration type is applied to a non-monthly subscription, the discount still applies to all invoices generated during the number of months set in the coupon's "Duration in months".

Example:

  • If you apply a coupon with a "3 months" duration to a yearly subscription, only one (first) subscription invoice will be generated during this period. So the discount will apply to one invoice. Note that the discount will cover the full yearly subscription price and not just the prorated price for 3 months.

  • If you apply a coupon with a "3 months" duration to a weekly subscription, about 13 weekly invoices will be generated during this period. So the discount will apply to all 13 weekly invoices issued within the first 3 months.

Track coupon and promo code usage

  1. Go to the Billing > Discounts page > open a specific coupon or promo code.

  2. Check the number and list of all redemptions in the "Redemptions" section.

Alternatively, export the "Invoice items" report to track the analytics of coupon and promo code usage across all members' invoices.
